A 3-5 year pilot program to send Kenton Ridge High School students to study internationally during their high school years or for a "Gap Year" began in 2014. Gap Year refers to taking a academic year abroad immediately following high school graduation but before enrollment in a degree-granting institution.
With leadership provided by a Kenton Ridge faculty team, and scholarship funding from Joseph (Rick) and Nina Hoppes, the goal is to build awareness in the KRHS community of the hugely positive benefits of having an international education experience during high school. It is also a goal to familiarize the school community with several highly-respected programs that provide summer, semester, full year, and gap year options for study: Rotary International Exchange, Youth For Understanding, and American Field Service (AFS).
For further information and/or to apply, contact any of the KRHS faculty team:
The official deadlines for most programs are late Fall. The deadline for the Hoppes International Study Scholarship is February 1.
