Northeastern
Schools
There is insufficient
electric in the Northeastern Local School District:
- With
today’s technology our buildings are maxed out and if we can find an empty
breaker we have to run 200` to 500` of wire to connect.
- Age
of electric is now a concern to the district (Northeastern was built in
1952, age 56 years old).
- Underground
electric is failing. We have to
rewire classroom lights, outlets, etc. and rewiring must be run on outside
of walls with conduit.
- Conductors
are failing that supply electric to heating systems and sound system.
- District
must meet today’s codes with GFI outlets (ground fault).
We need to run common wiring for this work.
- Outside
lights are at a maximum because we can’t find any more power for
additional lighting.
Plumbing
problems:
- Our
plumbing in the district is 40-56 years old.
- All
pipes are reduced in their size to due to corrosion – Example, 1` pipe
reduced to 3/4 to 1/2 inside diameter.
- We
have to shut down water mains to repair sinks and toilets because there were
no shut off valves installed with original installation.
- Vent
pipes are falling apart. Block walls must be torn out to repair or replace.
- Underground
lines are corroded and we must dig up floors/ground to repair. Example, 4”
line was leaking, by the time we were done 20” had to be replaced. The
following year additional 50” had to be replaced.
- Both
High Schools must have an acid neutralization tank for their labs. Kenton
Ridge has one but Northeastern High School does not, so one needs to be
installed.
- Drain
system is reduced due to age and system does not drain adequate.
Roofs:
- Leaks
are coming more often due to age. Warranties are running out. KR and Rolling
Hills have 4 years left on their roofing. SV, NE, and NR have 8 years left
on their roofing.
- We
must use roofing tar to repair leaks and to redirect water to drain to
gutters.
Windows:
- Seals
are not holding and we must caulk around windows.
- Window
parts are obsolete and we must make parts to fix broken windows. If parts
cannot be made the windows must be permanently sealed and cannot be opened.
- Frames
are separating from the structure. We
must cement or mortar in gaps.
Floor
Tiles in Buildings:
Floor tiles are damaged and we can’t get the same size or
color to replace them. Due to asbestos we must contract this removal and the
cost of tile removal for an average classroom of 750 square feet is $3200, with
an additional $2000 to replace with new tile or carpet.
Structure
of all Buildings:
- Blocks
are cracking due to settling and age.
- Steps
are separating from foundation.
- Sidewalks
are separating from buildings.
- Sidewalks
are cracking and settling.
- Foundation
floors are cracking in buildings and we must fill in with cement.
Main
Sewage Line:
Main sewage lines in buildings are corroded and are hard to
unclog. We have to have a company with a sewer camera come to locate the
problems and it is very costly per foot of sewer line inspected.
Playground:
- Equipment
is inadequate for children to play on. We have had to remove equipment
because it was not repairable and did not meet Jarod's Law requirements.
- We
have to bring in gravel every year because of the law.
- Must
meet Jarod's Law updates during the year.
Kitchen:
- Steamers
are outdated and repair parts cannot be found.
- Plumbing
pipe diameters are reduced and therefore the water flow is also reduced.
- Electric
is maxed out for equipment that we have.
- Dishwasher
parts are obsolete and heater booster is failing due to age.
Well:
(Northeastern High School)
Wells must pump water to supply NE High School, the Board
Office, the Bus Garage, and Maintenance building. Northeastern school runs out
of water due to several problems. These problems have occurred often in the past
two years.
Driveways:
We have to repair driveways every summer due to potholes
and missing gravel.
Unit
Vent Heaters:
Motors are going out more often due to age. Cost of a motor
is around $600 depending upon size.
Classroom
Locks:
- Can’t
find parts for door locks so that rooms can be secured. Entire door lock
must be replaced.
- Doors
are settling and will not shut. We have to reframe or replace.
- Security
is inadequate.
