While I am
serving the remainder of this school year as AD, most of you know that I
offered my resignation recently. It seems a
short two years since I began to serve as Athletic Director. At the
time, I had a clear sense that it was part of GodÕs plan for my life; that he
brought me here for a reason. Looking back, I know it was for many
reasons; most of which were about you. I have learned a lot from many
of you, and I want to thank you. You are an incredible group of very
generous people who have donated time to help things run smoothly in our
athletic programs. Thank you. IÕll miss you. During my
tenure here IÕve had some dramatic things happen in my personal life.
And now IÕm at a crossroads and the beginning of a new adventure which is an
opportunity to practice what IÕve preached; that our life in community
together isnÕt about any of us individually, but collectively,
together. ItÕs not about me, but about we. During my first
fall with you, in 2008 I wrote a poem titled, ÒDo You Believe?Ó It is
on the back of the program at each sports season awards night. Here are
just a few lines: It is not about me, I, he or she It is about we Do you believe? Ultimately, I
believe that God brought me here to teach me a more complete understanding of
the words that I once wrote. It is definitely not about me or I, it is
about Him. ItÕs not about my life but rather the life that He has given
to me. As the next chapter of my life begins, I understand better than
ever that I must now live for Him and not I; not myself. Finally, I want
to thank all of you who have helped and helped and helped in so many ways.
Without all of you, the we, all of the great things that have happened here over the many
years, would not have happened. It has been a great privilege and
blessing to be a part of this family for a short period of time. Know
that I count it as one of the greatest experiences of my life to serve you
and to serve together. A big part of my heart will remain with you, and
I will continue to believe for the best for all of you and the Athletic
programs of NEHS. I leave you with three words: ÒDo you believe?Ó
Two years ago
when I first took this position, I felt that God had brought me here for a reason. During this
time, I have learned many things from many people, I have had many people who
were willing to donate their time and effort to make things run smoothly and
I have had several dramatic things happen in my life. As I have decided to
travel other avenues in my life, I realized one thing, which is something I
wrote about at the beginning of my first fall season here at
Northeastern. It was a poem, I
wrote, called ÒDo You Believe.Ó
And ever since, I have put it on the back of the program at each
sportÕs season awards night. There are a few
lines that goes like this: It is not about me, I, he or she It is about we Do you believe? God brought me
here to understand the words that I once wrote. It is definitely not about me or I, it is about Him, who
has made me understand that it is not about my life but the life that He has
given to me. And a life that I
must now live for Him and not I.
I want to thank all of those who are here who have helped and helped
and helped in so many ways. Without all of you, the Òwe,Ó all of the great
things that have happened here over the many years, would not have
happened. And I, definitely, was
fortunate to be apart of it for a short period of time. We are all fortunate,
do you believe? Brian C. Shay,
