AWARDS

a.    All certificates, letters and awards are purchased by the Northeastern Athletic Department.

b.   A list of all award winners, participants who have lettered and those receiving certificates of participation should be turned into the Athletic Director as quickly as possible.  Time to prepare and order these awards are of utmost importance.

c.    Head Coach is responsible for notifying his/her athletes of the Awards Banquet.

d.   Special awards must be pre-approved through the Athletic Director. (Examples; Most Valuable, Coaches Award, Captains AwardsÉetc.)

e.    Deviation from this list is permitted under the following conditions:

i.              Approval of Athletic Director and Principal

ii.            Dollar value of deviations not to exceed dollar value of approved list.

iii.          Guidelines for earning a statistical award must be published to the team and school Administration prior to first contest. Examples:

1.    Basketball Best Foul Shooter must have a minimum of 30 attempted free throws.

2.    Baseball and Softball Best Hitter must average at least 2 at bats per game for entire season.

3.    Track Most Valuable Player- Athlete who scores most points for entire season.

f.     Athletic Awards

i.              Upon recommendation from the Head Coach of a sport, and with the approval of the Athletic Director, a member of a team, who has finished the season in good standing, and has fulfilled the necessary requirements for such, shall be awarded a varsity award for that sport. Seniors may be given varsity awards in sports for conscientious attendance at practice for at least two (2) consecutive years in that sport, even though they fail to participate enough to warrant the award.  Injured players, on the recommendation from the Head Coach, and approval by the Athletic Director, may also receive awards.  All athletic participants must be in good standing: academically, athletically and morally.

g.    Reserve Awards

i.              A student shall be awarded only one (1) set of numerals for all sports.  A student may receive a gold insert and certificate in all sports.  (Example:  A student who earns a numeral in football would receive a numeral and a gold football insert.  This same student, earning a numeral in basketball, would receive a gold basketball insert and certificate).

h.   Freshmen Awards

i.              All freshmen competing the season in good standing will receive their class numerals. A certificate and insert will be awarded to those students who already earned their numerals.

i.     Middle School Awards

i.              Seventh Grade:        A four-inch letter and insert shall be awarded for participation and completing the season.  Only one (1) letter will be awarded per student.  For participation in more than one sport, the appropriate sport insert will be awarded the athlete.

ii.            Eight Grade:  A four-inch letter and insert shall be awarded for participation and completing the season if the eight-grade student is competing for the first time in the middle school.  If the athlete received a letter during the seventh grade year, only the appropriate insert will be awarded. For those competing in the same sport the second year, a service bar will be awarded.  Certificates indicating the nature of inserts and service bars will accompany those awards.

iii.          Coaches Award

1.    Award to be given to one (1) boy and one (1) girl per school year.

2.    Athlete selected by consensus of the coaches in each Middle School.

3.    Athlete must have participated in at least two (2) sports.

4.    Coaches are to select the athlete who has contributed most to the team effort team spirit and works well with other athletes and coaches.

Award is not for the most valuable player.

5.    Award will be the same for all Middle School.

No individual trophies will be given. A team trophy may be given for a Championship Team.

j.     Varsity Awards

i.              The maximum size for a varsity letters shall be the size worn on a varsity coat. Six (6) inches.

ii.            A student shall be awarded only one (1) letter. A gold service bar shall represent each different first year varsity award earned.  (Example: A student lettering in football will receive a varsity letter.  This same student lettering in basketball will receive a gold service bar and insert).

iii.          The second year award shall be a plaque.

iv.           The third year award shall be a desk set.

v.             The forth year award shall be a desk clock.

vi.           All Special Awards will be standard trophies approved by the Athletic Director.

An individual having already received a letter in another sport will receive a gold service bar and insert.

k.   Cheerleading Awards

i.              Awards will correspond to the level of participation.

l.     Cross Country Awards

i.              A student must meet one (1) of the following requirements to letter in cross country:

1.    Run in one of the top seven positions in every regular season meet

2.    Average in the top seven positions for regular season meets

3.    Gain All-Conference League recognition

m. Football Awards

i.              It is recommended that a student shall have participated in at least one-half  (½) the total number of quarters possible to warrant a varsity award; however, border line, or special cases, may be referred by the Head Coach to the Athletic Director, for final action.  By state ruling, a quarter of play (in football) is determined by participation in two (2) consecutive plays.

n.   Golf Awards

i.              Must have played in at least one-half (½) of the varsity meets as a member of the six (6)-person team.

o.    Manager and Trainer Awards

i.              A varsity letter will be awarded to first year participant.

p.   Soccer Awards

i.              It is recommended that a student shall have participated in at least one-half  (½) the total number of halves possible to warrant a varsity award; however, border line, or special cases, may be referred by the Head Coach to the Athletic Director, for final action.

q.   Tennis Awards

i.              Must have played in at least one-half (½) of the varsity matches during the season.

r.    Volleyball Awards

i.              A student must have played in one-half (½) of the varsity matches during the season.

s.     Basketball Awards

i.              It is recommended that a student shall have participated in at least one-half  (½) the total number of quarters possible to warrant a varsity award; however, border line, or special cases, may be referred by the Head Coach to the Athletic Director, for final action.

t.     Bowling Awards

I.              A student must have participated in one-half (½) of the varsity matches during the season.

a.    Powerlifting Awards

II.           A student must have participated in one-half (½) of the varsity matches during the season.

a.    Swimming Awards

i.              A student must meet one (1) of the following requirements to letter in track:

a.    Average two (2) points per regular season meet

b.    Participate in every regular season meet

c.    Qualify for a regional meet

b.   Wrestling Awards

i.              Must wrestle in over one-half (½) of the total number of possible varsity matches.

c.    Baseball Awards

i.              All players, excluding pitchers, must have participated in at least one-half (½) of the total number of innings played during the season.

ii.             Pitchers must have participated in at least one-fifth (1/5) the total number of innings played to qualify for a varsity award.

d.   Softball Awards

i.              All players, excluding pitchers, must have participated in at least one-half (½) of the total number of innings played during the season.

ii.             Pitchers must have participated in at least one-fifth (1/5) the total number of innings played to qualify for a varsity award.
