Northridge Parents Club Meeting
October 13th in the IMC, 7:00p.m.

This year, students at Northridge Elementary, along with all students in the state of Ohio, are taking a variety of tests that will help monitor student success at various grade levels. The Achievement Tests are based upon the new state Academic Content Standards for Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science.

Grade 3 will be taking an achievement test in Reading and Math.  Reading will be given in Fall 2008 (October) and Spring 2009.  Math will be given in the spring of 2009.

Grade 4 will be taking achievement tests in Reading, Writing and Math in the spring of 2009.

Grade 5 will be taking Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science tests in the spring of 2009.

Students in 3-5th grade will also be taking Short Cycle Assessments throughout the school year. Teachers use the information gathered from the Short Cycle Assessments to help guide their instructional planning in Reading and Math.

Students in grades K-2 will be given DIBELS and DRA Assessments throughout the year to focus on reading fluency and comprehension.

This year is the first year that 5th graders are permitted to purchase a la-cart lunch.  This means that they may purchase individual items instead of or in addition to a plate lunch.   There are also 2 choices for the plate lunch.  There is the regular $2.40 lunch that you will find on the school menu.  There is also a $2.65 lunch, which is basically the same but would include French fries.  Because there may be different options for the $2.40 lunch, the cafeteria posts the weekly menu each menu.  (This menu is subject to change.)

There is the option to purchase fruit, vegetables, salads, and other healthy things individually.  However, there are lots of other choices as well; they may purchase chips, cookies, ice cream, etc.

Once a child has put food on their tray they may not put it back.  Students need to be careful to make selections based on the amount of money they have been given for lunch.  Parents can help by discussing lunch choices so that all students are choosing healthy foods.

Have you seen the eager students wearing bright green belts, and holding bright green flags at our crosswalks?  That is our 5th grade 2008/09 Safety Patrol.  They are out on the crosswalks working hard to keep our students safe.  Listed below are the 2008/09 Safety Patrol Students:
Mariyah Burkhardt, Makayla Cosper, Luke Southward, Kenzie Tyson, Zach Payton, Amanda Shy, Peyton Slagle, Shyanne Brown, Samantha Miesse, Abby Shroyer, Wesley Bard, Cassidy Havens, Annelise Gibson, Lauren Perkins, Chloe Green, Mitch Burkett, Madison Johnson, Breanna Hines, Matthew Ricketts, Taylor Massie, Sheila Bowen, Bailey Mounts, Macy Miller, Ryan Perks, and Kelsey Bernard

Students in grades 4 and 5 may ride their bikes to school.  Upon entering and leaving school property, they must walk their bikes to the bike stands and lock up their bikes.  Students in K-3 are not permitted to ride their bikes to school.

Also, please remember to call the office if your child is sick and they are not coming to school.

Finally, if there would be inclement weather and school would have to be delayed or cancelled, please look for Northeastern Local School District on the television, not Northridge Local School District in Dayton.

Safety is a main concern at Northridge Elementary.  We want your child to be safe and feel safe at school.  It is very important that parents report to the office immediately and sign in at the

elementary office when visiting the

school.  Also we would ask that you sign out when you are ready to leave.

It’s that time of the year and our fall parties (K-5) and parade (K-4) will take place on Friday, October 31st.  As always, we ask for some help from our parents to make the day run as smoothly as possible.  First, we ask that the costumes your children wear will not depict any type of violence.  This includes anything pertaining to blood and gore.  Also, this includes extras that would accompany any costume such as fake knives, guns, swords, etc.  Please do not send make-up or any costume that would take excessive time to apply.  Finally, our teachers will be working in their classes until the parties begin, so we ask that parents not arrive until 1:00 to help set up for parties or go to the classroom.  The parade for K-4 will begin at 1:15.  Thanks again for your help.

Just a quick reminder to parents that Northridge School will be closed on Thursday, October 16th and Friday, October 17th .

The end of the first nine-week grading period will be concluded on Friday, October 24th.  Grade cards will be issued to our students the following week, Friday, October 31st.
