Creating
appropriate and meaningful assessments is a task teachers are all too familiar
with, but still find difficult. Assessment is a huge piece to the education
puzzle. Today, we are going discover what assessment is, and how to effectively
use it in our classrooms every day. We will use the Internet to research
websites to aide our learning. Our goal is to find out what assessments are,
the different types of assessments available, why we use assessments, and how
to use them effectively.
Students
will work with a partner to complete the web quest on Assessment. Partners will
use the resources provided to answer questions from Worksheet 1. Upon completion of the worksheet,
students will have the opportunity to review a few web quests, and the quality
of their assessments.
1.
Partners
will decide what job they want to have while completing the task. One partner will need to navigate the
internet resources, and the other partner will record the learned information.
2.
Print
the scoring rubric for the web quest. This is what you will be evaluated on for
this assignment.
3.
Print
the worksheet to record learned information from the internet. Each question
needs to be answered.
4.
At
the top of the page, click on Resources to find the links necessary to complete
the task. Both links will need to be used to complete the worksheet.
5.
When
the worksheet is completed, on the back write a summary of what assessment
means to you, and how you use it in your classroom.

Scoring Rubric for Assessment Worksheet
As a follow
up to this web quest, you are going to look at some web quests below. When you scroll down, you will see
links to other web quests. They will
be numbered. With your partner, read through the task to be completed and the
assessment portion of the web quest. Decide if the assessment actually assesses
what it is supposed to assess. Could a better assessment method be used? How
could you and your partner improve the evaluation portion of each web quest to
make each more effective? After completing this web quest and follow up
activity, you will have a better understanding of assessments, how to create
them, and how to use them effectively.
