Dear Community, This web site has been developed to
allow community members to follow the progress of the District's Building
Advisory Committee (BAC). The
BAC will be working to engage the public as it reaches its goal of placing
a Bond Issue or Income Tax Levy on the November 2009 ballot for the
purpose of building new schools in the district. We will be placing PowerPoint
presentations and other information on the web site that may be of
interest to the community. The 42 member committee is made up of
parents, community members, local government officials, senior citizens,
teachers, support staff, building administrators, central office
administrators and Board members. They
will be meeting at least monthly to discuss concerns and to give direction
to the process of passing a levy and obtaining the additional funding from
the Ohio School Facilities Committee (OSFC). The OSFC will finance 41% of the total
cost of the project if the community agrees to finance the remaining 59%. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Northeastern
Local School District community. If
the district is unsuccessful in passing the levy in 2009, they will in all
likelihood lose the opportunity for any help from the OSFC in funding any
future building projects. When
current buildings can no longer be repaired or are unable to meet current
educational requirements, and have to be replaced, the entire funding will
have to be shouldered by local funds. As the BAC committee continues it's
work, there will be subcommittees that we will need the involvement of
community members. If you would be interested in serving on a subcommittee
you can email me at: rickbroderick@nelsd.org
to express your interest. The district will be holding community engagement meetings in the coming months, Please check back to our website for future dates, times and locations. |
