Social
Network Websites The Northeastern Local School District has
established guidelines according to Ohio Law O.R.C. 3313.661* regarding
School / district discipline of students for off school premises conduct,
specifically students use of Internet Web sites that establish sufficient
“relatedness connected to school activities and the need for a safe,
orderly learning environment.” Any use of Web sites to post information of a
derogatory nature about other students or staff which causes or may cause
a disruption to the educational process will be investigated and
appropriate actions taken. Any
use of Internet Web sites that by reason of content is related to the
school, students or staff and which is found vulgar or offensive to
prevailing community standards and which would be inappropriate in a
school setting will also be investigated and appropriate actions taken up
to and including contacting of appropriate legal authorities and / or
expulsion from school. It is not our intent to violate any Constitutional
rights of our students, but it is our intent to use the provisions of the
law to allow for a safe and orderly environment for our students and staff
to work in. The Northeastern Local School District will take every precaution available to block student access to Online Social Network Websites from district owned computers. However, students and parents are informed that the use of district owned computers to access these such websites without appropriate administrative approval is strictly prohibited. * O.R.C. 3313.661 (A) The board of education of each city, exempted village, and local school district shall adopt a policy regarding suspension, expulsion, removal, and permanent exclusion that specifies the types of misconduct for which a pupil may be suspended, expelled, or removed. The types of misconduct may include misconduct by a pupil that occurs off of property owned or controlled by the district but that is connected to activities or incidents that have occurred on property owned or controlled by that district and misconduct by a pupil that regardless of where it occurs, is directed at a district official or employee, or the property of such official or employee. |
