Enrolling your child in our district is a simple and straightforward process. We offer a variety of programs and services to meet the unique needs of each student, including gifted and talented programs, special education services, and extracurricular activities.

To begin enrollment, please follow the steps outlined below if you need to register a student for the current school year. The entire registration process will take place online. Click here for the NELSD FinalForms Parent Registration Playbook.

To begin the enrollment process for new residents, please create a FinalForms Parent Account.

To start the K-12 registration process: 

1. Please Create a FinalForms Parent Account by Clicking Here 
2. Please click on "Add Student" and be sure to click "Create Student" in order to save. 
3. Select a School Building (e.g., Northeastern or Kenton Ridge) and submit selection.
4. Complete forms and upload the following documentation to your student's documents folder in Final Forms. You will be asked to complete forms with your child's information, including their name, date of birth, and previous school attended. 

The state of Ohio requires the school to have certain documents for a new student to register for school.  New students MUST HAVE the following documentation.

• Certified Birth Certificate
• Immunization records as outlined in Section 3313.671 of the Ohio Revised Code.
• Custody or court papers signed by a judge (if applicable).

• Two (2) proof of residency documents.  One cannot establish a residence merely by purchasing a house or apartment. It must be the location the parent or student has established as the primary residence and where substantial family activity takes place. (Ohio Revised Code 3314.11)

1. One (1) of the following: Signed Mortgage Deed or Apartment Lease (must list names of all occupants), Builder’s Contract, NELSD Residency Verification Form, Real Estate Tax Statement, or Voter Registration Card.

2. One (1) of the following: Utility Bill (gas, electric, water), change of address with the post office or letter from a governmental agency (e.g., Social Security, Job and Family Services, Veterans Affairs). Must be dated within ninety (90) days. 

• IEP or 504 documents MUST be brought to the Board Office at 4435 Bosart Road, Springfield, OH 45503 (if applicable)

The parent or guardian's names MUST APPEAR on the legal proof of residency document. 

If the documents are in any other person's name, THAT person must sign a notarized Affidavit/Proof of District Residence. (See "NELSD Forms" on this page.)

5. After registration is complete, a start date will be scheduled for your student.

NELSD is no longer accepting Inter and Intra Open Enrollment applications for returning open-enrolled students for the 2025-26 school year. The window to apply was between Monday, March 3rd, at 8 a.m. through Friday, March 28, 2025, at 4 p.m.

We are no longer accepting new Inter and Intra Open Enrollment applications for the 2025-26 school year. The window to apply for the 2025-26 school year was between Tuesday, April 1, at 8 a.m. through Friday, April 25, 2025, at 4 p.m.

Please keep in mind that space at Kenton Ridge Elementary and Kenton Ridge Middle School is limited. For this reason, we will not be accepting new open enrollment students for Kindergarten through 2nd grade.

The link to complete online open enrollment will be available at nelsd.org. Separate applications must be completed for each child and all applications received will be date and time-stamped. After each application is submitted, you will receive an email confirmation.  Please check your spam folder for the email confirmation.

Notice of Approval and Acceptance of Offer

Parent(s)/guardian(s) of applications will receive notice of approval by June 30, except for Kindergarten students. Kindergarten students will be notified as soon as we know how many spots we have available.

We will include the next steps for the enrollment process when a family is notified by email of acceptance. 

Enrollment Priority

Enrollment priority shall be given to resident native students. Such students may not be refused attendance in the District, regardless of capacity. Resident native students also include those as defined by R.C. 3313.64.

Children of Employees

Employees with legal custody of a student shall be entitled to enroll their student in NELSD through the District's open enrollment policy. Priority is given to students of employees, provided enrollment occurs before the first day of the school year. 

Siblings

To the extent possible, siblings of current open enrollment students will be given preference provided enrollment procedures are met.

Other

Any applications not fitting the priority classifications above will be considered in the order in which they are received.

Important Information About Kindergarten Applicants

NELSD will not conduct kindergarten screenings for open enrollment students who are not five (5) years of age by August 1st.

Parents/guardians of eligible Kindergarten students can register their child(ren) for the next school year beginning April 7, 2025. NELSD uses FinalForms, and everyone must create a new account to upload the documents listed below. 

Kindergarten Eligibility and Assessment

To be eligible for Kindergarten for the 2025-26 school year, children must be five (5) years of age by August 1, 2025. If your child is not five years old by August 1, please do not complete the online registration. State law requires that all students must attend Kindergarten before entering first grade.

5. You will be contacted at a later date to discuss the next steps in the kindergarten entry process, including plans for the start of the school year. This will include information on KRA testing dates, start dates for Kindergarten students, and how classroom teachers will be assigned.

To withdraw from NELSD, please submit a Withdrawal Form. Additionally, we will need proof of enrollment in another district, community school, or homeschool notification before we can withdraw a student from our district. 

Please return all school-issued materials at the time of withdrawal (Chromebooks, library books, instruments, etc.)
