The Northeastern Preschool is a Special Education Preschool Program.  There are two classrooms located at Kenton Ridge Elementary and two classrooms at Northeastern Elementary, each made up of 16 students (at full capacity-8 typical students and 8 students identified with disabilities) per classroom.  The Ohio Department of Education sets these parameters and the District is not allowed to exceed unless there is specific permission from the Ohio Department of Education.

By law, the district has to provide service to all students identified with a disability throughout the school year (ages 3-5 years old).  Each spring, the Northeastern Preschool selects a total of 16 typical peers per unit (at full capacity 8 for the a.m. and 8 for the p.m.) for the following year.  The process for selection of typical students will be completed based on the following priority:

1. Returning Students:
   Any student currently being served in the program who wishes to return the following year will have first priority and will be placed on the preceding Official Preschool Roster before any other slots are filled. 
2. Preschool Typical Waitlist:  
   Your child may be placed on a preschool waiting list if they will turn 3 at some point throughout the school year (first day of school until the last day of school).  Students may only be placed on one typical waitlist for one specific school year.
   
   A Preschool Prescreening Form must be filled out/received in order to be placed on the waitlist. The District will decide, based on the parent's home address, if the child will be in the A.M. or P.M. session.

If your child was not selected for this current school year or you turned down an opening for your child, and you wish for your child to be placed on the following school year’s typical waitlist, the parents/guardians will need to contact Enrollment to request that their child be placed on that specific list.  The student will not automatically move over to the next list without a parent’s request.

**If you wish, the District will inform you of your child’s placement on the Preschool Typical Waitlist at any time throughout the process.  However, the number of students returning to preschool and the number of staff children added to the Official Preschool Roster could have an impact on how many students we can select from the Preschool Typical Waitlist.*

Northeastern Local will host Developmental Screening dates during each school year. All children participating in the screening will be administered the DIAL-4 and screened in the following areas:  Gross Motor Skills, Self-Help Skills, Speech, Fine Motor Skills, Learning Skills, Social/Behavior Skills, and Vision/Hearing.  

Dear Parents,

Your child may be placed on a preschool waiting list ONLY IF your child is three years old.  If your child will turn three years old at some point throughout the current school year, the earliest you may be placed on a waitlist is the first day of instruction.  In addition, Parents/guardians will need to fill out the PRE-SCREENING FORM prior to their child being placed on any typical waitlist.  Students may only be placed on ONE typical waitlist for ONE specific school year. The District will decide, based on the parent's home address, if the child will be in the A.M. or P.M. session.  Busing will only be provided to and from your home address unless approved by the transportation department. There will be no transportation outside the school district.   If your child was not selected for this current school year or you turned down an opening for your child, and you wish for your child to be placed on the following school year’s typical waitlist, the parents/guardians will need to contact the teacher/board office and request that their child be placed on that specific list. Your child will not automatically move over to the next list until you call and request the transfer to the new list.

The peer program is funded by tuition of $150 per month for the morning and afternoon classes. Tuition is due on the 1st of each month (September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April, and May). The first payment will be due on September 1st.

Accounts must be current on the first day of each month and must remain current. If you are 30 days late on payment, your child will be withdrawn from the preschool. Deductions will not be made for a child’s absence due to illness. There will also be no deductions for family vacations; we have vacation time already in our school schedule.

No payment will be accepted by the teachers; payments are due to the main office in each building. Checks can be made out to Northeastern Elementary School or Kenton Ridge Elementary School (depending on where your child attends). If paying by check, please put your child’s name on all checks.
