NEHS Cheerleaders Claim Third Place at National Championship in Orlando!
There’s a name that has been popping up in headlines all around… and it happens to be one of our own! We are sure many have heard about the Northeastern High School Cheerleaders' newest success, but we are here to give you the inside scoop on their trip to the National High School Cheerleading Championship down in Orlando, Florida!
This fun trip began on Friday, Feb 10, 2024, with a visit to Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. The girls enjoyed shopping, snacks, and popular rides like the Hollywood Tower of Terror! They then spent their night at Disney Springs, having a fancy dinner at Planet Hollywood, and shopped some more!
Saturday was for enjoying each other's company. The girls had a very quiet morning before they headed out to practice the routines they would perform the following day. But they managed to slip in some time for fun in the sun and team bonding by the pool!
Sunday was when the real cheerleading chaos began. The cheerleaders departed at 6:30 a.m. for ESPN Wide World of Sports to spend the day competing. And after many anxiety and excitement-filled hours, the team was rewarded with both good and not-so-good news. Two exceptional routines were put on the mat, yet only one would see the final round. Instead of feeling defeated, these girls rallied and prepared themselves for one last routine.
Monday, the day that school history was made. Many teams arrive at this moment with doubt and fear in their hearts, yet nothing but confidence was seen on the faces of each cheerleader as they took the mat. Encouraging phrases, “hype” music, and excitement filled the air over the few hours before the girls competed. And their everlasting energy was indeed present when they all stepped on the mat to perform their last routine. The team spent days, weeks, and months perfecting this routine, and it all came down to a three-minute performance.
And all of their hard work paid off! Our NEHS Cheerleading Team did not come home empty-handed…these girls earned their spot as third in the NATION in Varsity Non-Building Division II Game Day!!
The team's journey to Nationals began well before their appearance on ESPN. They have proven to be an exceptional, hardworking, and dedicated team that represents their school with pride. Awesome achievement, girls, you continue to make NELSD proud!!
