Northeastern Elementary School Named a Purple Star School for the Class of 2025
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio, April 21, 2025⸺The Northeastern Local School District (NELSD) is proud to announce that Northeastern Elementary School (NEES) has been selected as a Purple Star School for the Class of 2025 by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW). This prestigious designation recognizes schools that show a significant commitment to serving students and families connected to our nation’s military.
The Purple Star designation is awarded to schools that create a welcoming and supportive environment for military-connected students and their families. Last week, Northeastern Elementary School received official notification that it had earned this honor by meeting the criteria set forth by the Purple Star Advisory Board through ODEW. This recognition reflects the school’s ongoing efforts to understand and address the unique needs of students navigating the challenges of military life and school transitions.
“We are incredibly proud of our team at Northeastern Elementary for creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, especially those from military families,” said Superintendent Jack Fisher. “This designation reflects the careful work being done to ensure military-connected students feel seen, supported, and successful.”
As part of the celebration, NEES also hosted a special Purple Up Day last week, with students and staff wearing purple in recognition of April as the Month of the Military Child. Military-connected students were honored with a celebratory lunch featuring purple star balloons and cookies. The event coincided with the school’s announcement of its Purple Star designation, providing students and staff with the opportunity to celebrate the honor alongside our military-connected families, who make the NEES community so strong. NELSD extends sincere thanks to the NEES staff, students, and the entire Jets community for helping make this recognition possible through their compassion and continued support.
The Purple Star designation is valid for three years, with Northeastern Elementary School eligible to apply for renewal in Fall 2027 to be considered for the Class of 2028.
