Shining Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Laura Clay

Mrs. Laura Clay has been an NELSD girly for life! She started her NELSD journey at Westside School for Kindergarten, which was located on Rt. 68 next to the Credit Union. The school was solely used for kindergarten classes. After attending kindergarten at Westside, Mrs. Clay continued her education at New Moorefield, followed by Rolling Hills. During her teen years she went to Northridge Middle and graduated from Kenton Ridge High School in 1995.  Clay went on to attend Miami University, where she majored in Education.

While going back and forth with Clay, I learned more about her days at Kenton Ridge. As a senior, her class experienced many “firsts.” For instance, they witnessed the first-ever homecoming parade and Friday Night Football game under the bright stadium lights.

Mrs. Clay and her family

In her years of coaching volleyball at Northridge, Clay has worked with the Varsity, JV, and seventh-grade teams. She goes above and beyond by assisting with concession stands and fundraisers for the Boosters program.

When she’s not playing around with her French Bulldogs, Frankie and Finny, you can see her here at KRES as a 5th-grade teacher. She has been a teacher for 25 years now. Her students refer to her as “Mrs. Slay” because she is a true slay (a.k.a. she is exceptional)! When she teaches, she brings out passion and excitement. English and social studies are her thing! If you ever need to find her, you can spot her rocking her favorite color purple.

When she’s not in the classroom, she is spending time with her family. She and her husband, Keith, have been married for 24 years and have two amazing daughters. Her daughter, Sydney, graduated from Kenton Ridge in 2021. Sophie will be graduating this year from the new Kenton Ridge PK-12 building. They love to travel during our spring and summer breaks. Their go-to travel spots are Walt Disney World, Tennessee, and Arizona. Fun Fact about Clay is that she has hiked a mountain in Taos, New Mexico.

Thank you, Mrs. Clay, for your continued dedication to our students and the NELSD community.
