Shining Student Spotlight: Abby and Emma Skinner
Meet two of Northeastern’s shining seniors and this week’s spotlight feature, Abby and Emma Skinner! The twins make an impact in their community by staying involved, overcoming obstacles, and always modeling a positive attitude.
Throughout the bustling school year, Abby and Emma are actively engaged in a variety of extracurricular activities. Abby's passion lies in the vibrant music department at NEHS, where she fully immerses herself in choir, select choir, drama club, pep band, and the spirited marching band. One of her fondest and most cherished memories is her unforgettable experience being part of the spectacular Spongebob Musical production with the talented drama club!
Emma, a dedicated and talented individual, holds esteemed positions as an officer in Northeastern's Leo Club, National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America (FFA), and the influential Student Government. She also actively participates in cheerleading and competes in tennis. Emma cherishes the unforgettable bond she forged with her cheer teammates during their thrilling competition at Nationals in sunny Orlando, Florida, this past February.
They've demonstrated an unwavering ability to persevere and find silver linings in even the most difficult situations. When their family's home was devastated by a tornado last February, the sisters' resilience and optimism shone through as they supported each other and their family through the rebuilding process. Additionally, their little brother's diagnosis of stage five kidney dysplasia has further strengthened their empathetic nature and taught them the importance of cherishing life's precious moments.
These experiences have cultivated a remarkable go-with-the-flow attitude within Abby and Emma, allowing them to navigate life's unpredictable journey with grace and determination. Their newfound wisdom and compassion have made them invaluable sources of support and guidance for others facing their own struggles, as they offer advice or simply lend a listening ear to those in need.
Aspiring to make a difference after high school, Abby is planning on attending college to study vocal music education with a goal to become a Choir teacher. Emma’s goal is to attend college and major in nursing. Driven by their individual passions, they are determined to continue to make positive contributions to the lives of others.
NEHS is lucky to have such a determined and driven sister duo. Staff around the building recognize the reliable leadership skills both girls possess and oftentimes look to them to accomplish tasks. Keep shining bright!
