Shining Student Cougar for Chaz Z.

For Chaz Z., fifth grade wasn’t just another year; it was a milestone filled with growth, friendships, and some truly unforgettable experiences. As a new student at Kenton Ridge, he came into the year facing big changes, but he handled them with the same determination he brings to sports and academics.

“It was pretty nerve-racking,” Chaz admits about switching schools. “But I already knew a few kids from baseball and basketball, and that helped me feel more comfortable. I started hanging out with them and made new friends, too.” That willingness to jump in and connect with others makes Chaz stand out, along with his thoughtful insight into what makes a good friend. “You’ve got to be able to trust them. A good friend won’t do things behind your back or try to embarrass you. They’re loyal.”

Outside the classroom, Chaz leads a busy life filled with sports and enrichment programs. He plays basketball with the Kenton Ridge Youth Program and baseball for the Ohio Baseball Club. He’s also part of the PGA Jr. League and participates in Gifted Programs. One of his proudest moments this year was competing in the National Finals of the Drive, Chip & Putt golf competition. “It was super cool,” he says, “Just being there, putting on the 18th green, and being part of that history, it was amazing. And the fans watching were awesome.”

Even with all his impressive accomplishments, Chaz hasn’t lost sight of the simple joys of being a kid. When asked what he enjoys most about school, he grins. “All the teachers are amazing, and I love the books, games, and science projects. But it’s also my last year of recess.”

With his positive attitude, wide-ranging interests, and commitment to being a good friend, Chaz is making his mark at KR—and it’s clear that this is just the beginning of a very bright future.
