Shining Student Spotlight: Alyssa Shaffer
Meet Alyssa Shaffer, a senior at Kenton Ridge High School (KRHS), and this week’s shining student spotlight! Known for her outgoing and supportive nature, Alyssa stands out as a student-athlete and leader who makes a difference both in and out of the classroom.
At KRHS, Alyssa serves as the Vice President of the Student Council, where she helps lead initiatives that benefit her classmates and strengthen school spirit. She is also a dedicated member of the National Honors Society, demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence and service. As part of the Kenton Ridge Swim Team, Alyssa balances her athletic pursuits with her leadership roles and channels her enthusiasm and teamwork into every practice and meet.
Beyond her school commitments, Alyssa actively participates in community service, contributing to initiatives like food drives, creating thoughtful cards for nursing home residents, and assembling Christmas stockings for children in need. Her involvement extends to supporting school sports, where she volunteers at the baseball concession stands each spring, always ready to help. Reflecting on her helpful nature, Mrs. Gibson shared, “Alyssa is not afraid to come to the teachers to ask how she can support and help them. Later, she comes back to ask if you still need help double-checking, and asks are you sure?”
One of Alyssa’s biggest accomplishments was qualifying for the state swimming competition during both her freshman and sophomore years. She fondly recalls stepping onto the podium at Districts with her teammates for the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay, celebrating their shared achievement and the hard work that made it possible.
Among her favorite high school memories are the special moments of being selected for the homecoming court as a freshman and again as a senior with her boyfriend, making the experience even more meaningful.
Alyssa cherishes the closeness and supportiveness of the Cougar community, which has made her high school experience truly special. To her, Cougar pride means showing up for one another—cheering on classmates at sporting events and celebrating their achievements.
Her advice for underclassmen is simple yet impactful: work hard, step out of your comfort zone, and take advantage of the many opportunities high school offers. “You’re only in high school once,” she reminds them, encouraging everyone to make the most of their time at Kenton Ridge by getting involved and creating lasting memories.
Looking ahead, Alyssa is exploring a future in either education or medical imaging and is excited about the opportunities that college will bring. While she hasn’t yet decided where to continue her education, there’s no doubt that her determination and commitment will lead her to success in whichever path she chooses.
Kenton Ridge High School is incredibly proud to celebrate outstanding students like Alyssa, who embody the Cougar spirit and leave a lasting impact on their school and community.
