NELSD Seniors Staats-DeLong & Mefford Receive Martin Luther King, Jr. Peacekeeper Award

On Friday, January 13, 2023, Kenton Ridge High School (KRHS) scholar Hannah Staats-DeLong, and Northeastern High School (NEHS) scholar Joslin Mefford received a Martin Luther King, Jr., Peacekeeper award from the City of Springfield, Clark State College, and the Human Relations Board.

The annual Peacemaker Awards were presented to 11 local high school students recognized for their ability to resolve conflict in a positive way and assist in bridging cultural and social differences within their schools. Clark State and the City of Springfield started the Peacemaker program in the 1980s.

“These students have shown the commitment to continue Dr. King’s work by promoting equality for all in their daily life functions and are well deserving of receiving the Peacekeeper Award,” said Dr. Gordon, dean of enrollment services at Clark State.

Congratulations, Joslin & Hannah, on being positive leaders in our school communities!
