Superintendent Update - January 16, 2022

January 16, 2022

Dear NELSD Families,

The Northeastern Local School Board of Education met for an Organizational Meeting on January 13, 2022, and agreed to extend the universal mask requirement for students and staff two more weeks through January 31, 2022.

As we have expressed to our community many times, we believe it is critically important for our students to be at school in person as much as possible. Being in person is essential for their educational progress, mental health, and social-emotional development.

In my previous communication on December 30, 2021, I mentioned that we are looking for our District numbers to be below one-half percent (0.005 or 0.5%) of positive cases and below five percent (0.05 or 5%) in quarantines.  We have seen our positive cases hold steady and an increase in our quarantines. Because of these results, we have elected to extend the mask requirement through January 31, 2022. Families can view our weekly COVID-19 Reporting Dashboard by clicking here.

The District remains committed to providing students with as much in-person learning as possible this year. We will keep you updated about our efforts and decisions about how we will navigate through this together.
