Northeastern Local School District (NELSD) held its building dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Northeastern PK-12 Campus building on Saturday, August 20.
Students, parents, alums, community, state and local leaders, and staff were in attendance to celebrate this momentous event. The event was kicked off by the Northeastern Marching Jets playing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” led by Mr. Guthrie Douglas. The Northeastern Choir, led by Mr. David Wilson, performed the Alma Mater during the ceremony. The ceremony was concluded with the Fight Song performed by the Marching Jets and the Jets Cheerleaders coached by Mrs. Libby Sagraves. Throughout the event, the NELSD Community was acknowledged for their indispensable role in making this bright new learning environment possible.
“I want to thank all of the voters in our community who supported the vision of these two new campuses,” said Dr. John Kronour, superintendent of Northeastern Local School District. “The opportunities in the new Northeastern building are endless for our kids to grow and we are excited to take this positive momentum and continue progressing forward as a district.”
The new Northeastern PK-12 Campus will open as a new school for all pre-kindergarten through 12th grade Northeastern Jets starting on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022. The 175,856 square-foot building includes two new gymnasiums, state-of-the-art science and media labs, a first-class VoAg space, and separate entrances for parent drop-off and buses. It will also include practice fields for the band and some athletics.
The new school is located just north of the former South Vienna School building on the same grounds. Athletic facilities will remain at 1414 Bowman Road, the former Northeastern High School site and current location of the Board and Transportation Offices with after-school shuttles transporting to the athletic complex.
The new campus is a funding partnership between the District and the state’s Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC). In May 2018, voters approved a 37-year, $79 million bond issue, which includes Local Funded Initiatives (LFIs), to fund the local portion of two new PreK-12 facilities, Northeastern and Kenton Ridge, in the Northeastern Local School District. The state will contribute $40 million overall to both facilities, or 40% of the funding for building construction, through the OFCC, bringing the total funding for the two schools to nearly $120 million.
The architect for both projects is Ruetschle Architects and the Construction Manager At-Risk (CMR) is Shook Touchstone.
Northeastern Local School District (NELSD) is a public school district located in the northeast portion of Clark County, Ohio. NELSD serves approximately 3,000 students in grades PK-12 at four facilities across the district, Northridge Elementary & Middle School (K-8), Rolling Hills Elementary (PK-5), Kenton Ridge High School (9-12), and the Northeastern Campus (PK-12).
